Sulayman Al-Bassam's Richard iii on PBS

A friend described him as a 'national treasure'... I might have to agree.

  1. Well said. A national treasure indeed.

Truly talented artist. Great role model for todays youth.

  2. Did I ever tell you about the first time I heard of him?

I was in high school, and he was on KTV2 talking about his attempt to stage a production of a modernized Hamlet, with pop songs (the written form cannot do justice to the Britishness of the way he said pop.) I called my best friend and told her to turn on her televisions set. She, coming off a big 21 Jump Street phase either said he was stiff or a stiff, I can never remember. He was neither. He wore a white suit with a pale pink shirt and was extremely English and a little flamboyant I think. I was smitten.

We need more creative people like him to come out and show themselves :)

Please don't ever take your blog down, I'm a grad student doing some research and it has proved invaluable- thank you.
