Anyone who has been on these flights should get checked for TB..
-
Michael Moore's new film Sicko tackles the health industry...
-
"Colony Collapse Disorder" anyone?

---
We would like to congratulate Kuwait on recognizing the danger posed by ozone depletion, almost a whopping twenty years after the Montreal Protocol made it more than obvious... It's like suddenly getting all excited about bell bottoms and polyester...
We ratified the Protocol in 1992...
We are still trying to replace ozone depleting products with safer alternatives...
And now I must get back to more behind the times reading...
----
I leave you with Mary Oliver once again:

"Plus, too,
it's love almost too fierce to endure, the bee
nuzzling like that into the blouse
of the rose. And the fragrance, and the honey, and of course
the sun, the purely pure sun, shining, all the while, over
all of us."

From the poem Hum

Hmmm... are we not immune to this new strain then? You know, unlike us, Americans *don’t* get TB shots growing up, because it’s not as common there and possibley because of vaccination expenses.

Direct segue into ‘Sicko’(see? So logical progression that it spills over onto my comments ;P), it’s the only Moore film I’m interested in seeing since 9/11. I don’t normally like him, he’s too… sensationalistic, too little credibility, he’s the documentary equivalent of that guy in a dirty grey bathrobe that yells stuff outside your building. Even if he’s making sense, you’re not inclined to listen. Only, I am more suspitious of the health industry than I am of conservatives so that’s saying a lot (although the usually go hand in hand so…)

On the whole ‘local efforts to save the ozone layer’… ::headdesk:: So hopefully when we’re sharing real estate with Flipper, they’ll do something about global warming. Trust us to get on board when the train is slowing the hell down! Seventy effin eight! *&%$!

Oh wow… love that. the bee nuzzling like that into the blouse of the rose. The imagery… thee way with words. Quite lovely.

Also… hey you!

Kuwait needs to recognize a lot more than the ozone problem when it comes to environmental issue. We have huge lakes of oil traveling beneath the earth (oil is hydraulic, which means it attaches its molecules to other substances and moves)that is seeping into our water supplies and soil, or what by-products the petrochemical companies release into the biosphere that we breathe in on a daily basis. Allah y'3een Umm el Haiman.

And I'm not even going to get into the open sewage pipes that run out into our gulf. Kuwait institute of scientific research contracted a sub-branch of the UN to research and assess the impact of the oil spillage of the Gulf War on the ecology- which they have never published or publicly released- yet (if ever).

And just for fun, let's add to this chemical cocktail all the depleted uranium wafting over from Iraq. And we wonder why there has been a sudden alarming hike in MS (multiple sclerosis) and cancer over the last 15 odd years.

Great blog.

Too add, I don't think we have any regulatory laws that truly address environmental issues, they only skirt around at the surface. I need to research this some more though.
