I woke up on this 'morning after', and was waiting for that feeling where you can actually get out of bed and start the day...I need to snooze a lot you see...and so, in between all the different alarm clocks going off at different times, I was going through all the events of yesterday...cheery young activists, determined senior citizen activists, blue all over the place..idiotically rude MP's and then shock that people would applaud, like that is the worst thing that happened in that room..I know, I know, they had a rule book, or at least a rule paper that they had to follow..sure..we're ok with that cause we are peaceful folk...we know what's right and we will keep asking for it, even if we stumble along the way...because yesterday was about the beautiful singing..the nice day and the fact that there were ladybugs all over the place..you know that they're a good luck sign..especially if one landed on any of you lucky people...I wish there were more people out there yesterday, even though I thought the number was great, I just know so many people that should have been out there but weren't...and I know it would have been good for their souls, to be brothers and sisters and friends and comrades on a sunny day out in front of the building that looked out onto a family of people demanding to be heard...and being so sweet about it too...That's what went through my head on this morning after..
so as i slowly crawled out of my half awake state i saw a purple piece of paper sticking out of a cardboard box that I have been avoiding for ages...and the purple paper suddenly caught my eye after over a year of being there, ignored...here's what was on that paper..it made me laugh a little..and I figured it wanted to be looked at today, of all days..

Because woman's work is never done and is underpaid or unpaid or boring or repetitious and we're the first to get fired and what we look like is more important than what we do and if we get raped it's our fault and if we get beaten we must have provoked it and if we raise our voices we're nagging bitches and if we enjoy sex we're nymphos and if we don't we're frigid and if we love women it's because we can't get a "real" man and if we ask our doctor too many questions we're neurotic and/or pushy and if we expect childcare we're selfish and if we stand up for our rights we're aggressive and "unfeminine" and if we don't we're typical weak females and if we want to get married we're out to trap a man and if we don't we're unnatural and because we still can't get an adequate safe contraceptive but men can walk on the moon and if we can't cope or don't want a pregnancy we're made to feel guilty about abortion and for lots and lots of other reasons we are part of the women's liberation movement.

That's why it is a patriarchy.

Although painfully true, I couldn't help but find the last part of your post quite amusing.

They would have a lot of glbt stuff too if you want, so maybe you might find the exact one one you saw.
Also, you can try http://www.syrculturalworkers.org/catalog/catalog.html

If u get raped its u r fault? Ween ga3deen even in the US some ppl think like that but in kuwait who the hell would say that? Not me and I m against womans rights well not the right to vote cus that really is a right for every human being but for allah sake what is a woman in the mejlas going to do to help Kuwait as a whole?
Il7een what is the plan that these woman have when/if they get into the mejlas to me if u r a candidate and want to wins ppls votes u have to have a plan of action all I see is ppl waving signs we want in but the bigger question what r u going to do once u get in?
To me the issue is not about right its about the situation u r situation in Kuwait is al7amdolilah very well u even have the right to protest in other countries u dont even have the right to drive a car. But to be honest thats not the issue. The problem is that as muslim men we would never allow our wives to be in a situation that would have here in the middle of men. When woman want to reshi7 themselves they would have to interact with men go to where they go to and participate in what they participate now here is the problem when a woman does this she is nt seen as a candidate for an office she s looked at as a woman a person of the fairer sex in our religion this is considered a sin. This issue has nothing to do with whether or not woman deserve the right according to the constiution of kuwait but rather what the situation in kuwait is. These woman do not speak for all kuwaiti woman but rather they speak for themselves which are a few between a many that disagree with their actions.

Fahad, Thank you for coming by and sharing your thoughts..when you ask what plan of action women have, I agree with you, there has to be thinking beyond just getting the vote..but I wonder what plans the majority of men had before they were handed their right to vote all those years ago..
What women will contribute is a voice, and a knowledge that men will never have (especially men who continue to insist on a separation of the sexes) and that knowledge has to do with what the female half of society needs/thinks/has an opinion about...no man can understand and provide the necessary resources for a part of society that he doesn't even want to see or listen to..so how does he give himself the right to speak for women and keep them silent?..the right to vote and even run for office will certainly change things.
Also, if we continue to see men and women working together as just beasts who can't interract on a professional level, what does that say about our own sick minds..many people are capable of resisting the temtation to pounce on their work mates and other human beings around them..anyone who can't imagine that might want to question his own instincts and help to work through that problem for him/herself..not impose restrictions on those of the planet that actually have something on their minds other than sex.
If women don't want to vote and run for office and if they are in the majority, then by all means they can stay in their homes, and refuse to do so..no one is going to drag them to the voting booth..but to deny human beings the ability to excercise their rights to political representation..that is a bit much..even for a country like ours.
